Challenging Administrative Barriers to Housing Equity
As local government professionals, we know that policy is only as effective as its implementation. Today, I submitted a formal public comment to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) opposing proposed rollbacks to the Equal Access Rule (Docket: HUD-2026-0529).
These changes would redefine "sex" in ways that create digital gatekeeping, placing undue administrative burdens on transgender and nonbinary residents. Applying the lens of administrative chrononormativity, I argue that these rigid documentation requirements function as systemic penalties for our most vulnerable neighbors.

Elder Safety: 38% of LGBTQIA+ elders already fear service discrimination.
Economic Survival: 1 in 5 gender-expansive residents survives on less than $20,000/year; these programs are literal lifelines.
Institutional Integrity: We must ensure our administrative processes reflect our values of social justice and equity.
